On my Publishing Stack: Svbtle for now, upgrades later

I write most of my work direct in pen and paper in journals, or within the Notes app or Word app on my computer. I also occasionally write directly in the Svbtle interface.

I set this blog up using Svbtle’s software many years ago, after previously setting up custom hosted implementations of Wordpress and other blogging software. The process of setting up Wordpress, although more customized, can be a headache and require a lot of time when custom-hosting.

I need to focus on writing more than setting up software right now, so I will continue using the Svbtle software temporarily.

However, usage of the software should in no way be seen as my recommendation for Svbtle, or for their founder Dustin Curtis or any of their team, beyond the basic usage of the software platform. I have never met or talked to Dustin or anyone from their team, but I do respect the work they’ve done narrowly on this writing platform. I simply signed up on the website many years ago when I was looking for an extremely simple posting service.

I do like the simplicity of the service, but there are many complaints I have as well. For one, the web and mobile interfaces are cleanly designed but are still dated and could use an overhaul. A mobile app would be far easier to use than the mobile web experience, which breaks a lot. It should be easier to drop in simple blocks of Markdown code, in a copy paste or insertion. At minimum a few more details should be added to the Markdown overlay so that regularly checking the Advanced Guide isn’t needed.

I have noticed friends using newer platfroms like Ghost and Substack. I would welcome recommendations on the publishing workflows that others find most time-effective.
